Meet Mike Walker, Barnstable County’s Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) Manager
Today’s Employee Feature goes to Mike Walker. Mike is the Manager of Barnstable County’s Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC). As part of the Barnstable County All-Hazards Incident Management Team under the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee, the MACC provides local Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) with resources and information during major county-wide or regional incidents, usually storms and weather-related threats.
Managing behind the scenes, Mike works closely with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Eversource, and other utility companies to supply towns with items and support they need during these emergencies.
Since March 16, 2020, the MACC has operated daily in response to COVID-19. Mike has focused on assisting with the procurement of PPE for our Cape and Islands communities. Since its activation, he has coordinated over 1,000 orders and deliveries of PPE to agencies across Cape Cod and the Islands.
Before his position at the MACC, Mike was in law enforcement for over 35 years and began his position as MACC Manager in 2007. He had worked at Sandwich and Chatham Police Departments before retiring as a Police Captain in Chatham. He was also an Emergency Manager for the Town of Chatham from 1986 to 2007.
When asked what he likes most about working for Barnstable County, Mike said, “Working with the numerous towns and different emergency events.” During the pandemic, when a member of the staff became ill, he had to evacuate the building and operate the MACC remotely from his residence while in quarantine for 14 days.
Thank you, Mike Walker, for your dedication serving our region and managing the MACC for over 13 years!
